Ryan Weld Headed Back To W.Va. Senate
WELLSBURG - West Virginia Sen. Majority Whip Ryan Weld is on his way to a third term in the State Senate.
Republican voters on Tuesday selected Weld, R-Brooke, over opponent Scott Adams of Wellsburg to be the GOP nominee to the District 1 seat in the West Virginia Senate. No Democrats filed in the race.
Weld received 8,289 votes to Adams' 4,485.
"Thank you for placing your trust in me to represent and fight for you for another four years," Weld said.
"I think what put me over is my record for getting things accomplished for this district, always being available to my constituents, and always taking on the real issues that they face. I look forward to continuing as their senator."
The 1st Senate District encompasses Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties, as well as eastern Marshall County.
Weld, 43, served one two-year term in the House after being elected in 2014. He was first elected to the Senate in 2016, then re-elected in 2020. He is nearing a cumulative 10 years of experience in the Legislature.
Weld presently serves as chair of the Senate Military Committee, as well as vice-chair of the Judiciary Committee.
The current Judiciary Committee chair, Charles Trump, R-Morgan, is an unopposed candidate for the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals this year.
