Ohio County Offices Relocating Starting Today

By Joselyn King 2 min read

WHEELING - The Ohio County Commission Office and other county offices on the second floor are the next to be relocated as part of a $12 million renovation project happening at the City-County Building in Wheeling.

Melissa Marco, project coordinator for the county, said work to complete the fourth- and fifth-floor upgrades will be done by Friday.

Completion of the fifth floor will allow the courts to move back into their offices, and permit workers to focus full attention on the second floor and county offices.

"We're moving into the next phase," Marco told commissioners ."On Thursday (today), we'll be moving to the first floor into the (former) police department. On Friday, the clerk's office will be moving to join us."

Then on Monday, the County Tax Office will relocate to the fourth floor swing space, with the Assessor's Office set to move on Tuesday.

All employees in these offices will be relocated for about three months as work takes place.

The County Prosecutor's Office and the courts will stay open on the second floor for now, Marco added. They will be part of the next phase of renovations.

"I have alerted the judges that while things are happening on this end of the hallway it may render their courtrooms unusable at times when they are doing demolition," she said.

A temporary wall will be placed to the left of the second floor elevator to prohibit visitors from venturing into the construction zone. The public, however, will still be able to go right to the Prosecutor's Office and second floor courtroom, Marco continued.

The plan - at least for now - is to hold upcoming commission meetings in the second floor courtroom.

Using Wheeling City Council chambers for meetings is possible, but it would require the commission to change the time of their meeting as the commission and city council meet concurrently, she noted.

The next meeting of the Ohio County Commission is set for 6 p.m. on March 18.
