Passion Is Welcome. Disrespect Is Not.

There is nothing wrong with opposing Silicon Foundation’s proposed data center and energy technology campus in Warwood. There is nothing wrong with questioning the company’s plans, challenging its claims or demanding answers from Wheeling City Council. In fact, residents should do all of those things. But there is a right way to participate in the public process. What happened at Tuesday’s City Council meeting crossed that line. Local Test Scores Still Not Where Need to Be

The latest round of assessment test scores for West Virginia students were released on Wednesday, and as expected, there were no real gains from the previous school year. Across the state, only 48% of students tested proficient in reading, 39% in math, and 29% in science. That’s not even close to being good enough. Locally, Ohio County saw 58% of its students proficient in reading, 48% in math and 35% in science. Marshall County had 46% proficiency in reading, 41% in math and 29% in science. The announcement of a new WVU Medicine outpatient clinic coming to The Highlands shows us a couple of things. One, it shows us that the services WVU Medicine is providing are being used to a point where expansion is necessary. Nailers Find A Good Fit With New Affiliates

No one should be surprised at how quickly the Wheeling Nailers were able to find a new NHL affiliate. It was less than a month between the Pittsburgh Penguins announcing it was ending its 29-year partnership with the Nailers and the Columbus Blue Jackets announcing earlier this week that they and the AHL Cleveland Monsters would become the new affiliates for the longstanding ECHL franchise in Wheeling. The McLure Hotel Deserves A New Chapter To Its Story

There seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel in the saga of whether the McLure Hotel could open its doors again. At a Wednesday court hearing, an attorney for McLure Hotel owner FA Management Corp., headed by Fran Garey, told Municipal Court Judge Jeffrey Miller that there was a potential buyer for the property, the purchase process was underway and a closing date was set for Sept. 4.
