Sokoses Celebrate 60th
Gus and Frances Sokos of Wheeling celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 12.
They were united in marriage July 12, 1959, at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, Wheeling, by the Rev. Demetrius Michaelides.
Frances is the daughter of the late Louis and Christina Mamakos of Wheeling. She is 1956 graduate of Triadelphia High School and a 1960 graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in physical therapy. She was employed by Bellaire City Hospital and later served the Ohio County area as a Home Health Traveling Physical Therapy specialist.
Gus is the son of the late Mathew and Annette Sokos of Richwood, West Virginia. He is a 1947 graduate of Richwood High School and a 1956 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College with a Bachelors of Science degree in education. He went on to obtain a Masters Degree in education from West Virginia University in 1971.
Gus taught for several years with the Ohio County Board of Education at Ritchie School and Triadelphia Middle School. He is an active member of the St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church currently serving on the Board of Trustees and was past president of the Church Council and past president of the Miltiades Chapter 68 District No. 11 Order of the AHEPA.
Frances has remained active as a member and served as vice president of the Daughters of Penelope, and is a member of the Philoptochos organization, St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church.
They are the parents of three sons, Dr. Mathew, wife Jamie (Arslain), and grandsons Gus and James of Wheeling; Louis, wife Rita (Grubler), and grandchildren Elias, Zachary, Olivia and Lexi of Morgantown, West Virginia; and Dr. George, wife Denise (Fletcher) and granddaughter Elizabeth of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Gus and Frances enjoy spending time with family, cheering on the Mountaineers and attending WVU football games.
