Barkers Mark 50 Years
On Aug. 31, 1969, Robert Hal Barker and Linda Darlene Donnelly were united in marriage at the Memorial Baptist Church in Weirton by the late Rev. John R. Donley, uncle of the bride.
Robert is the son of the late Robert Lee and Ida Mae Barker of Chapmanville, West Virginia. Robert is a 1967 graduate of West Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He started his career with Weirton Steel as Supervisor of Combustion and Instrumental Engineering, and finished his career with Bayer Material & Science as Senior Engineer.
Linda graduated in 1969 with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from West Liberty State College. Her M.A.’s were in reading from West Virginia University and administration from Salem University. She taught for 38 years in Brooke County as an elementary teacher, Reading Specialist and Assistant Director to Title 1. Her last eight years were with the West Virginia Department of Education as an original member of the West Virginia Reading Cadre.
The couple celebrated for three days with their extended family at the Maple Chalet in Oglebay Park where their anniversary party was held on Aug. 31 for family and friends. Their sons honored their parents with this event in the chalet. Their family includes two sons, Bob of Grapevine, Texas and Lee of Wheeling.
