Horstemeyers Mark 60 Years

Sherlene and Duke Horstemeyer

Duke and Sherlene Horstemeyer of Weirton celebrated 60 years of marriage on Saturday, Sept. 7, with family members.

They were married on Sept. 5, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wheeling, by the Rev. William Erhard, pastor.

Sherlene retired as an operating room nurse at Weirton Medical Center, and Duke retired from the PR Department at Weirton Steel.

Parents of the couple are the late Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kelly of Moundsville and Mrs. and Mrs. Del Horstemeyer of Wheeling.

Sherlene graduated in 1957 from Ruth Brandt School of Nursing, Martins Ferry, and Duke, after being discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1957, received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from West Virginia University in 1960.

The couple has four sons, Stephen and wife Ruth of Lynchburg, Virginia; Derek and wife Jill of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Mark and wife Barbara of Lynchburg, Virginia; and Scott and wife Michelle of Atlanta, Georgia. Nine grandchildren complete the family.
