Olivers Celebrate 70th Anniversary
Katy and Curt Oliver of Wheeling are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.
The couple met during high school, were married Dec. 19, 1953 in Wheeling, and lived in north Wheeling before settling in Mozart to raise their family.
They are members of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mozart.
Katy stayed home to care for their three sons and one daughter. She later volunteered at Meals on Wheels and was active in her service at church. She enjoyed getting together with her bunco club. Her parents are the late James and Anna Rafa Schlick.
Curt began his career as an ironworker in 1954 with Ironworkers Local 549, then served as the Business Agent and Financial Secretary from 1966 until his retirement in 1994. He was instrumental in improving the financial stability of the union members and their families. He has served for many years at Our Lady of Peace, giving countless hours of service to their parish and was also active in the Knights of Columbus for many years. His parents are the late Clarence “Buck” and Elizabeth Warrick Oliver.
Curt and Katy have four living children, Mike, Jim, Sue and Larry, and two sons who died in infancy. They have 15 living grandchildren, grieving the recent loss of their grandson, Robby Oliver. They are blessed with 26 great-grandchildren, with one on the way, and one great-, great-grandson.
More than 100 friends and family members gathered to celebrate and honor them on Dec. 2.
