It’s Winter Ball Time for the Wheeling Symphony
The 39th annual Viennese Winter Ball takes place on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Oglebay’s Glessner Auditorium.
Ellen Culler and Roanne Burech are co-chairs for the Ball. Chapman, attendants; Jennifer Croft, transportation; Betsy Delk, Patron Party; Patricia Dunlevy, desserts; Missy Glessner, sponsors; Anne Harman, Patron Party; Jamie Leary, treasurer; Holly McCluskey, publicity; Kathleen McDermott, invitations; Roberta Olejasz, Intermezzo; and Elisabeth Slater, reservations.
For the Ball’s opening procession into Glessner Auditorium, Alexander J. Roth is serving as grand herald. Dr. Hugo J. Andreini III and Ethan Chapman Casey are assuming the roles of chamberlains.
A highlight of the evening is the participation of the Cotillion, featuring 10 young women and 10 young men who are seniors at area high schools. Gary and Missy Glessner are sponsors of the 2020 Cotillion. Cheryl Pompeo is the choreographer and dancing instructor for the Cotillion.
An elegant menu is planned for the formal dinner. Lobster sausage and shaved fennel salad with tomato basil aioli is the appetizer. The salad course is radicchio and endive with marinated olives, sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella pearls and parmesan crisps with a balsamic and olive oil dressing. Both the appetizer and salad are paired with a Charles Thomas Cotes-du-Rhone blanc. A blood orange sorbet will be offered during the Intermezzo. The entree is filet mignon and salmon, served with parmesan risotto, candied basil tomato, charred tomatoes, steak butter and green asparagus and paired with a Chateau Saint Cotes-du-Rhone rouge. A vegetarian option is also available. An array of elegant cakes and pastries are offered for dessert.
