The Viennese Winter Ball Cotillion Will Dance the Night Away

WHEELING — Viennese Winter Ball, an important fundraiser as well as one of the most elegant social events of the season, is celebrating its 39th year. The gala takes place at Oglebay’s Glessner Auditorium Saturday, Feb. 1.

Organized by a 17-

member committee, the ball generates funds for the Wheeling Symphony.

A highlight of this significant social event is the participation of the Cotillion, featuring 10 young women and 10 young men, all of whom are seniors at area schools. Missy and Gary Glessner are sponsors of the 2020 Cotillion.

The young women chosen for the 2020 Cotillion are as follows:

∫ Jillian Kate Blair of Wheeling, is the daughter of David and Karen Blair. Jillian is a senior at Wheeling Park High School, where she serves as president of STEM Club, vice president of the National Honor Society and Division Leader of Park’s Speech and Debate team. She is a member of the French National Honor Society, Young Patriots Choir, the International Thespian Society, Sustainability Liaison, a REAP Counselor and WPHS Social Media Administrator. Jillian is the captain of the WPHS varsity soccer team and a freshman mentor. She volunteers as a YWCA youth board member and an intern with Grow Ohio Valley. Jillian plans to attend WVU, with a major in environmental and energy resource management and a minor in French, to pursue a degree in environmental law and policy.

∫ Brynleigh Joy Buff of Glen Dale, is the daughter of Tiffany Buff and the late Donnie Buff. Brynleigh is a senior at the Linsly School, where she is a Senior Prefect, member of Linsly’s swim and cross country teams and serves as manager of Linsly’s lacrosse team. She volunteers for the Oglebay Good Zoo as well as the Wheeling Symphony. Brynleigh plans to study marine biology in

college.

∫ Alexandria Joyce Carson of Wheeling, is the daughter of James and Kristin Carson. Alexandria is a senior at the Linsly School, where she serves as Senior Prefect and Head of the Academic Committee. She is a member of the Linsly cheer team, the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and the Latin National Honor Society and a co-editor of the school newspaper. Alexandria is a member of SADD, Drug Free Club of America, Spanish Club and the Astronomy Club. Alexandria plans to major in business in college and attend law school.

∫ Emily Joanne Croft of Wheeling, is the daughter of David and Jennifer Croft. Emily is a senior at Wheeling Park High School, where she is a member of the varsity cross country and track teams, Key Club, Science Competition Club and Soccer Pep Club. She volunteers with the American Cancer Society and serves as a member of the YWCA Youth Board. Emily works at the Wheeling Country Club. She plans to study marketing and business administration in college before attending law school.

∫ Emma Maryann Delk of Wheeling is the daughter of David and Betsy Delk. Emma is a senior at Wheeling Park High School, where she is a member of the varsity track, swim and soccer teams. She is an AP Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society, Math Club, Key Club and FLUENT Club. Emma is an OVAC varsity board member and plays on the Century Soccer Club. She plans to attend Fairmont State University to play soccer.

∫ McKenna Rae Dunbar of Wheeling is the daughter of Dr. Ken and Robin Dunbar. McKenna is a senior at Wheeling Park High School, where she is a member of the varsity cross country and track teams. She is a member of Key Club, Fluent Club, Science Competition Club and Drug Free Club of America. McKenna serves as a student ambassador, freshman mentor and math tutor. She plays violin and cello and is a member of the competition team for Turn it Out Dance Academy. McKenna plans to major in neuroscience in college and attend medical school.

∫ Lindsay Grace Lenz of Wheeling is the daughter of Patrick and Nikki Lenz. Lindsay is a senior at the Linsly School, where she is a four- year varsity cheerleader and senior captain of the cheer team. Lindsay plans to attend college in the fall to become a pediatric psychiatrist and help manage the family business.

∫ Ciara Morgan McGlumphy of Triadelphia is the daughter of Steve and Lori McGlumphy. Ciara is a senior at Wheeling Park High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society and the WPHS Strings program. She volunteers for her church, Young Life, Campaigners, and WSA. Ciara works at Howard’s Diamond Center, the Flatiron Coffee Company and the Wheeling Park Commission. She plans to study exercise physiology at WVU and become a Physician’s Assistant.

∫ Faith Jacqueline Paull of Wheeling is the daughter of Tammy Paull and Steve Hill. Faith is a senior at the Linsly School, where she serves as Senior Prefect. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the French National Honor Society, Key Club, French Club and SADD. Faith is a captain for the Linsly varsity girls soccer and track teams and was selected as a member of Linsly’s Homecoming Court. She plans on attending High Point University in the fall.

∫ Eve Elizabeth Ridenhour of Wheeling is the daughter of Lea Ridenhour and the Rev. William Ridenhour. Eve is a senior at the Linsly School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Latin National Honor Society. She is a member of Linsly’s varsity soccer and swim teams. Eve attended WV Rhododendron Girl’s State and serves as President of the West Virginia Junior Classics League. She plans to attend college in the fall.

The young men named to the 2020 Cotillion are:

∫ Carmen Spyridon Alexander of Wheeling is the son of Spiro and Carla Alexander. Carmen is a senior at Wheeling Central Catholic High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, the French National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Drug Free Club of America, French Club, Math Club and Teens for Life. He is a four-year letterman and captain of Wheeling Central’s varsity tennis team. Carmen is an altar server at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He plans to attend Franciscan University of Steubenville to study either business or engineering.

∫ Matthew Edward Borkoski of Wheeling is the son of Steven and Lisa Borkoski. Matthew is a senior at the Linsly School, where he serves as Senior Prefect and Cadet Ambassador. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a Captain of Linsly’s varsity lacrosse team. Matthew volunteers as a coach for the Special Olympics. He plans to attend WVU in the fall and major in physical therapy.

∫ Michael Anthony Borkoski of Wheeling is the son of Steven and Lisa Borkoski. Michael is a senior at the Linsly School and is a Senior Prefect and Cadet Ambassador. He is a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Astronomy Club and a Captain of Linsly’s varsity lacrosse team. Michael plans to study aerospace engineering at WVU.

∫ Lee Randolph Cartweight of Rayland is the son of Jay and Julie Cartwright. Lee is a senior at the Linsly School, where he is a Senior Prefect, a three-letterman in Linsly’s varsity baseball team and a four-year letterman with the varsity football team. He is an Eagle Scout. Lee will attend Miami University in Ohio where he plans to study business.

∫ Dylan Michael Diosi of St. Clairsville is the son of J. David and Dana Diosi. Dylan is a senior at the Linsly School, where he is a member of Linsly’s varsity soccer and tennis teams. He serves on Linsly’s Latin Club, Art Club and is a member of the Drug Free Club of America. Dylan plans to pursue a career in art and design in college.

∫ Adam Gregory Marquart of Wheeling is the son of Greg and Lisa Marquart. Adam is a senior at Wheeling Park High School, where he is vice president of Wheeling Park Players, a member of the Speech Team, Young Patriots Choir, and president of the Psychology Club. He is an AP Scholar, a Stifel award winner, National Honor Society member, freshman mentor and attended Mountaineer Boys State. He is active with Towngate Theatre and its Crazy 8 Improv group, sings with St. Matthew’s Choir and lectors at Our Lady of Peace parish. He has volunteered for Oglebay’s Good Zoo, danced with Allegro Dance Company and traveled to Poland with Classrooms without Borders. Adam plans to attend WVU and major in psychology.

∫ Ethan Patrick McDermott of Wheeling. He is the son of Patrick and Kathleen McDermott. Ethan is a senior at the Linsly School, where he is a Judicial Scholar and Cadet Ambassador. He is a four-year member of Linsly’s varsity soccer and lacrosse teams and was selected for Mountaineer Boys State. Ethan will attend Elon University this fall.

∫ Joel Michael Nau of Wheeling. He is the son of Joel and Becky Nau. Joel is a senior at the Linsly School. He has served as a prefect in both his junior and senior years, is a member of the Honor Roll, Headmaster’s Performance List, German National Honor Society, vice chair of the Student Voice Committee and member of the Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership program. Joel was a part of the Linsly soccer and bowling teams, drama productions and also has been in the opening act and comedy team of the Linsly Extravaganza. He was chosen to attend the West Virginia Governor’s School of the Arts in 2018, as well as the West Virginia Governor’s Honor’s Academy in 2019. Joel participates as an actor and volunteers at Oglebay Institute’s Towngate Theatre. Joel plans to study computer science and acting at WVU.

∫ Lee Cunningham Paull V of Wheeling is the son of Lee IV and Jennifer Paull. Lee is a senior at the Linsly School, where he is a three-year letterman of the varsity football and baseball teams. Lee plans to major in pre-med at WVU.

∫ Joshua Michael Schultz of Weirton. He is the son of Michael and Airry Schultz. Joshua is a senior at the Linsly School, where he is a member of the varsity swimming team and the Spanish Club. He works on the student newspaper and is editor of the yearbook. Joshua hopes to major in marketing at Robert Morris University this fall.
