Enrichment Day Camps Set at Stifel Fine Arts
WHEELING — The altered school schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many families seeking daytime childcare. Oglebay Institute is utilizing its resources to help fill that need.
Enrichment Day Camps will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, beginning Monday, Sept. 14 at OI’s Stifel Fine Arts Center in Wheeling. Early drop off and aftercare are also available.
“During these challenging and uncertain times in our communities and our schools, Oglebay Institute is committed to providing a safe, well-supervised, supportive place for student learning on non-school days,” said OI Director of Marketing Misty Klug.
While there is a fee to attend the programs, Oglebay Institute is offering financial assistance to help area families.
Enrichment Day Camps feature an arts-infused curriculum and nature-based learning designed to enhance fundamental life skills such as creative problem-solving, teamwork, patience, self-confidence, tolerance and collaboration, Klug explained.
“Students will begin the day with a fitness program designed to wake up their bodies and minds. Next, visual and performing arts activities stimulate creative thought and expression. After lunch, recess includes time for unstructured play as well as team-building activities and group games. Outdoor exploration and hands-on nature programs in the afternoon help build science skills and connect kids to the natural world,” she said. “In addition, students can bring their homework to complete during free time at the end of the day and get assistance from OI staff members.”
Enrichment Day Camps are open to children in grades K-6. Students will be divided into two groups-grades K-3 and grades 4-6. Only 15 students will be admitted to each group, for a total enrollment of 30 kids per day.
Oglebay Institute has had COVID-19 safety protocols in place for months, Klug said, as the Institute has welcomed hundreds of kids during its annual summer day camp program.
Protocols, including mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing and daily health screenings will continue for the Enrichment Day Camp program.
