Scarecrow Lane Returns to Cockayne House

Scarecrow Lane is back at Cockayne Farmstead and scarecrows will once again take up residence on the Farmstead’s lawn from October 19-31.

Many local businesses, organizations, and individuals have designed and entered scarecrows as part of this fun community event. The scarecrows will be up for viewing beginning Monday, October 19. Visitors can view the scarecrows and vote for their favorites during regular open hours (Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm) or during special evening hours over the next two weeks.

Special open times will be as follows:

Thursday, October 22 – 5-8pm

Friday, October 23 – 5-8pm

Saturday, October 24 – noon to 4pm

Thursday, October 29 – 5-8pm

Friday, October 30 – 5-8pm

Saturday, October 31 – 5-8pm

During these hours, the Farmstead will be decorated and lit so guests can enjoy a stroll through the scarecrows on display and pick their favorites. All scarecrows will be displayed on the lawn with a sign identifying the sponsoring business, organization, or individual. The prizes in each category will be decided by votes cast by the public. Tickets for voting will be $1 each.

Tours of the farmstead will also be available during these hours, and there will be a fun craft for kids and fall photo opportunities for the whole family. On October 31, children are invited to stop by the Farmstead during Trick or Treat for a special treat. For more information, call the Farmstead at 304-845-1411 or visit www.cockaynefarmstead.com/events or Cockayne at Glen Dale on Facebook to read the event description.
