WHEELING — On Nov. 1, Our Lady of Peace Parish and School celebrated the dedication of the new Battaglino Family Center. The Most Rev. Mark Brennan, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, he Rev. Joseph Augustine, pastor; Principal Maureen Kerr, and members of the Battaglino family were present to dedicate the new space along with parishioners and members of the school community.

The catalyst for the gathering space came from a cornerstone contribution generously given by Dr. John Battaglino, his sister Virginia and his late sister Carmella.

The building expansion features a new gathering space for parish and school events, a new preschool classroom and a multi-purpose space. The Battaglino Family Center has many energy-saving features incorporated into its design, such as full automated LED lighting, natural daylight harvesting, high-efficiency HVAC and air quality control systems, and the use of eco-friendly materials for construction.

The new addition also builds on OLP’s commitment to ensure a safe school environment. The architectural design of the building allows for an event to take place in the new space without guests having access to the educational areas of the building. Interior and exterior doors are electronically controlled and monitored, high-definition cameras are installed throughout, and impact-resistant glass and doors reinforce the perimeter.

Pastor Augustine and Principal Kerr thanked the members of the Our Lady of Peace community for their commitment and dedication to the building project as Bishop Brennan blessed the building space inside and out during the short ceremony. Our Lady of Peace Parish and School plan to use the needed space for gathering and celebrating as a parish and school community as they look forward to the future.
