Elks Lodge to Hit the Links For Annual Golf Scramble

WHEELING — Players and sponsors are being sought for the 17th annual charity golf scramble presented by the Elks Panhandle Lodge No. 74 in Wheeling.

This year’s golf scramble takes place on Sept. 19 just across the river at Paradise Hills Golf Course in Yorkville.

“We’ve always made it a priority to serve the community,” Dave Dennard, exalted ruler at the Elks Lodge No. 74, said. “Our 17th annual golf scramble is testimony to our dedication. Over the last five years, we’ve been able to raise over $16,000 to assist more than 50 students in their college careers.”

Dennard said these students have received degrees in various fields of study, including criminal justice, business management and medical technology, just to name a few. They are graduates from local institutions, as well as colleges and universities in other parts of West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and even North Carolina.

The golf scramble is an important fundraiser that helps the Elks generate money to help these local students.

“From our experience and conversations, we know that there are a number of graduating students who are from low- to moderate-income families and living in single, head of households,” Dennard said. “So we would like to offer monetary assistance to students who might choose to attend trade schools, along with those who choose to attend colleges and universities.”

The scramble will host four-player teams for $50 per player, $200 per team.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100. There are also team sponsorships, which include a hole sponsorship and a four-person team entry, for $300. Tournament sponsorships include a logo and banner, plus recognition at the awards luncheon, and they are available for $500.

Officials at the Elks thanked the community members for their support.

They urged sponsors to get involved, and encouraged players to come out for a fun day of golf for a good cause. Event sponsors and supporters so far this year include the IBEW Union No. 71, Pickles Eatery, Carenbauer Distributing, McCann Distributing and Gold, Khourey and Turak, along with all of the participating golfers.

“Thank you for teaming up with the Elks Panhandle Lodge No. 74,” Dennard said. “Together, we can change lives through education.”
