Sons of the American Revolution to Meet

WHEELING — The Fort Henry Chapter’s winter quarter meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26, in the auditorium on the lower level of the Ohio County Public Library, 52-16th St., Wheeling.

Four new compatriots will also be introduced and welcomed.

As always spouses, prospective members and guests are welcome.

Wheeling Island Crime Watch Set

WHEELING — The Crime Watch/Island Community Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Island Christian Church, 59 Zane St., on Wheeling Island.

Hazlett Speaks at Civil War Roundtable

WHEELING — The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will host speaker Thomas Hazlett at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, inside the historic court room at West Virginia Independence Hall in Wheeling.

Hazlett’s lecture employs his vocational and avocational skills to discuss the treason trial — and Wheeling’s potential role — of Jefferson Davis, who served as the president of the Confederacy from 1861-1865. Topics for future Roundtable presentations will include: John Brown; Battle of Fort Sumter; Letters in the Attic; Civil War Pittsburgh; and Hudson and Kent, Ohio.

The lectures are open to the public and free of charge. Donations to the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will be accepted.

SWPA Meeting, Neighborhood Watch

WHEELING — The regular South Wheeling Preservation Alliance meeting and Neighborhood Watch will take place on Tuesday, March 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The Neighborhood Watch will be held from 6:30-7 p.m., and the regular meeting will follow from 7:15-8:30 p.m. The topic will be the last chance to save South Wheeling’s most important atebellum house, the Hobbs House, and how to do it.
