National Day of Prayer Events Set at Capitol Ballroom
WHEELING – Jon and Jolene Hamill of Lamplighter Ministries will be the guest speakers at the local National Day of Prayer at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, at the Capitol Theatre ballroom in Wheeling, the first of two events of the day.
The National Day of Prayer is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2026, and the Wheeling celebration has changed its format as part of the event. Instead of a breakfast meeting at the WesBanco Arena, the National Day of Prayer will be conducted as a luncheon in the ballroom, where the Hamills, along with other local leaders, will observe the theme of “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in all Generations.”
Wheeling Mayor Denny Magruder will read a proclamation regarding Wheeling as part of the agenda. Wheeling Park High School drum corps will be participating in colonial dress with colonial drums.
The Hamills are Watchmen for Washington, D.C., prayer people who watch and pray over the government and our nation. Jon Hamill is a direct descendant of Richard Warren, signer of the Mayflower Compact, and a distant cousin of Paul Revere, who was instrumental in the American Revolution as we head into the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Tickets for the event are $15 and can be purchased on the Ohio Valley National Day of Prayer Facebook page.
Several books by Christian historian David Barton highlighting the formation of our nation will be given away at the event.
The day will conclude with the Hamills leading a worship and prayer gathering at 6:30 p.m. at Wheeling’s Independent Hall. Connie Smith, an ordained minister, from Oklahoma City will be leading worship.

Those participating in the luncheon are: American Legion Post #1, presenting honor guard; Jan L’Ecuyer, C3 Church leading the national anthem, worship; Fr. David Griffin, OSB Director of Campus Ministry Wheeling University, opening prayer; Magruder, mayor of Wheeling, proclamation; Dino Figaretti, field representative for Congressman Riley E. Moore; Smith and Bishop Michael Tolliver, duet of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic;” Bishop Daryl Cummings, Bethlehem Apostolic Temple, closing prayer; and Julia Buck, elementary music teacher Corpus Christi School, closing worship with “America the Beautiful.”
