Program Examines Saint John’s Bible

WHEELING – The Ohio County Public Library’s next Lunch With Books program will welcome Father Joshua Saxe with “The Saint John Bible: Art, Scripture and Community.”

The program will take place at noon on Tuesday, May 26.

The Saint John’s Bible, commissioned by the monks of Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville, Minnesota, is the first handwritten and illuminated Bible created in over 500 years.

Brought to life by a team of artists and calligraphers, the seven-volume work brings together the ancient tradition of illuminated manuscripts with modern artistic expression. The Ven. Joshua Saxe, Rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, will explore the vision and creation of this Bible, using images and video to explore how the project moved from initial vision to completion. A Heritage Edition volume featuring the Gospels and the Book of Acts — recently hosted by St. Matthew’s Episcopal — will also be on display.

Fr. Saxe, will share how the manuscript was used in congregational life for study, prayer and reflection.

Starting at $2.99/week.
