Main Street to Mountains: A Wheeling Portrait

2 min read

WHEELING - An array of artwork showcasing local scenes from the Wheeling area are now on display this summer at the Wheeling Artisan Center’s first floor.

The showcase is part of Wheeling Heritage’s Main Street to Mountains: A Wheeling Portrait, a community-driven plein air art experience and juried exhibition created specifically for Wheeling’s America 250 celebration.

On June 20 - West Virginia Day - artists of all skill levels gathered at destinations throughout the city to paint and capture the landscapes, people, architecture and character that make Wheeling unique. Those works, along with additional public submissions, are featured in a juried exhibition at the Artisan Center and will remain on display this summer through Aug. 31.

This project gives people a personal and creative way to connect local identity with a national milestone. It supports working artists, invites broad public participation and creates welcoming, visible cultural experience as part of Wheeling’s celebration of America 250.

The works shown here and many other pieces are on display as part of the exhibit, and all pieces (unless already sold) are available for sale by the artists.
