Olashuk Attends 25th Kiwanis International Convention

WEIRTON - The Kiwanis International Convention was held at the Manila Marriott, Philippines, June 24-27. Among the 917 delegates in attendance, 17 were from the Capital District, including Mary Kay Olashuk from the Weirton Kiwanis Club, Division 18.

International Officers elected were: President-Hope Markes, Jamaica; President-Elect Cathy Szymanski, Pa. (U.S.), and Vice President-Toto Gonzales, Philippines.

An amendment to allow remote voting was withdrawn by the Capital District for lack of Asian-Pacific support, and two other amendments were not approved by the delegation.

This is Olashuk’s 25th International Convention that she has attended. She is currently a trustee of the West Virginia Region of the Capital District, which also includes Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. Division 18 includes Kiwanis Clubs in Weirton, Wellsburg, Wheeling, Moundsville, and Parkersburg.

Next year’s International Convention will be in Dallas, Texas June 16-19.
