WHEELING - The Queen of Queens will take place on Thursday, July 16, at the Capitol Theatre in Wheeling.
The Queen will be crowned at the OVAC Football Game on Saturday, July 18. Tickets for both events can be purchased through links found on the ovac.org website. Tickets will be $10 for adults. Students are admitted for $1 to both OVAC events.
Girls from 16 OVAC schools will be competing for the title of Queen of Queens. They will be judged on their interview, talent and poise/presentation. The interview takes place prior to the beginning of the actual talent show itself.
Photo headshots of the contestants were provided by photographer Ray Gaughenbaugh of Gaughenbaugh Studio.
"Something new this year will be The People's Choice Award, said Joyce Jingle, OVAC Queen of Queens director. "Everyone in the audience will have the opportunity to cast their vote for their choice in exchange for a monetary donation as they exit the theatre. The donations will be split between the OVAC and the Shriners Hospitals."
The winner who receives the most votes will be announced at the All Star Pep Rally on Friday, July 17.
"The weeklong OVAC activities are a great way to cap off a high school career, whether it be on the field or on the stage," Jingle said. "I hope these young people make great lasting memories."
The contestants have had their eyes set on this year’s event since early this spring.
"The Queen of Queens candidates have been working hard since April to make these All Star events happen," Jingle said. "Not only have they been working on honing their own talent, but they have been out in the community securing support from friends, families and area businesses. We want to thank everyone who has contributed in some way to make these events possible for our young people."
