The Role of Field Music in The Civil War Explored

WHEELING - The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable’s speaker for the August meeting is Patrick Jones, a Pittsburgh native, a member the Camp Chase Fifes and Drums, and a member of Company I of the Irish Brigade’s 116th Pennsylvania Reenactors’ Regiment.
"Chunks of Pudding and Pieces of Pie-The Role of Field Music During the American Civil War" will be the focus of his presentation. For viewing he will also have original drums for display and demonstration.
Jones began his music career at the age of 13 which led to the position of drum sergeant. He began his studies of transcribing percussion notation from various historical manuals and has delivered presentations to various U.S. Drummer associations and Civil War Roundtables. A teacher for the Upper St. Clair School District, Jones teaches fifth grade Social Studies and Science.
The meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 5 begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Ohio County Public Library. It is open to the public and free of charge.
