MOUNDSVILLE - "Remnants of Moundsville: A Random History" will be offered at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library at noon on Monday, Sept. 28, on the library's main floor.
Marshall County resident Stephen J. Hummel will share fascinating bits of local history through a show-and-tell of objects from his private collection. Time for questions and answers will follow Hummel's presentation. This event is free and open to the public. It is aimed at adults and teens.
Hummel is widely recognized in the region for his museum Archive of the Afterlife and for numerous media appearances related to paranormal investigations. He also spent more than a decade leading tours of the former West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville. An avid history buff, Hummel can also count art and poetry among his other pursuits, having several books and original works available.
This event's focus is on little-known local lore as well as some of Moundsville's well-known claims to fame such as the Penitentiary's past and the filming of "Fools' Parade." Hummel will use various objects of historical significance to present this random selection of Moundsville stories.
