WHEELING - Author and historian Caroline Davis will be the guest speaker at the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Ohio County Public Library’s auditorium.
Davis’s lecture will focus on The Battle of Stones River (Dec. 31, 1862 to Jan. 2, 1863). Gen. Braxton Bragg’s Army of Tennessee went up against William Rosecran’s Army of the Cumberland. On Jan. 1, President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation went into effect and the fate of Middle Tennessee would be determined by the outcome of the battle.
A native of Morgantown, Davis graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor of arts degree in history and an master of arts degree in historical presentation from Georgia State University. She has worked at Stones River National Battlefield as well as Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Vicksburg, and George Rogers Clark National Parks.
