WLU Nutting Gallery Hosts ‘Comic Cuts and Creative Chaos’

WEST LIBERTY -- West Liberty University welcomed interdisciplinary artist Robin Miller to the Nutting Gallery for the exhibition "Comic Cuts and Creative Chaos: The Art of Robin Miller."
The opening reception was held Sept. 2, and the exhibition remains on view through Sept. 30.
Miller, based in Bluefield, West Virginia, works across painting, drawing, traditional collage, text and video. His practice centers on the playful rearrangement of visual and written language.
Works by Miller are held in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the University of Delaware, the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art and the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Key characteristics of Miller's work include a playful and ironic attitude, the incorporation of found and pop-culture materials, and experimental collage that often combines text, mass-media fragments, chance elements and absurdist juxtapositions.
"Robin's practice has affinities with Neo-Dada approaches, particularly in its playful collage and language manipulation," said Nutting Gallery Director Brian Fencl. "I hope students appreciate his attention to craftsmanship -- a working approach that values time, careful observation, the repurposing of objects and the ability to revisit themes across years with new materials and technologies."

The Nutting Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building at West Liberty University, presents exhibitions by visiting artists, senior shows and the Annual Art Faculty Exhibition. It is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
