WHEELING - The Woman's Club of Wheeling will be meeting on Friday, Oct. 2 and Friday, Oct. 16 at Monument Place in Wheeling with President Linda Snodgrass presiding at the general meetings at 1 p.m.
The current membership is 120 members. Women in the surrounding communities are invited to join anytime during the year by contacting Lexie Hanket, membership chairwoman, at 304-845-0078. A light lunch will be provided by a local vendor before the meeting at noon at a minimal charge.
At the Oct. 2 meeting, Barb Larue, fundraising chairwoman, will speak to members promoting the Oct. 30 fundraising Style Show Luncheon at Monument Place beginning at noon. Members will model clothing from J.C. Penney after lunch. The event is open for women in the area to attend and enjoy a fun time. The Hall of Fame will cater the event preparing choices of pork loin or meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, California blend vegetables and cake for dessert. The cost for a ticket is $30. About 20 donated baskets will be raffled, and a 50/50 raffle will be available. This is a major fundraiser for the club to raise money for several local agencies in Wheeling. Please consider attending and inviting friends and relatives to join you to support our efforts.
Lisa Stewart, chairwoman of the Arts and Culture Community Service Program Committee, will host an Arts and Crafts Competition for the members of the club on Oct. 2. Members are reminded to bring entries by 10 a.m. to be judged. Two local retired art teachers will judge the arts and crafts. A variety of entries including photography, painting, crocheting, crafts like wreaths, stuffed items, etc. will be judged. The winning entries will then compete at the GFWC WV Northern District Fall Convention on Oct. 10 hosted by the Woman's Club of McMechen.
After the Oct. 2 general meeting, which is not open to the public, a performance by Eli Lambie and the Mojo Kings will be featured. The group made its debut in 2019 and performed at high-profile venues and events around the tristate area and have accompanied and shared the stage with many incredible performers. The group is a power-packed, dynamic eight-piece band with a horn section that covers a variety of genres including rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, pop, Top 40, and much more. Along with band leader Lambie, the group consists of Jan L'Ecuyer (vocals, keyboard), Greg Molnar (vocals, guitar), Rick Daller (trumpet), John L'Ecuyer (drums), Marty Bassett (trumpet), Jon Banco (saxophone), and Pat Garrett (trombone). This is a band that can satisfy any musical appetite and is well known for their extremely broad repertoire of great songs from every era.
After the Oct. 16 general meeting, Judy B. Morgan, RN, BSN Palliative Care Nurse at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital will speak to members. Morgan is a graduate of Belmont Technical School's Registered Nursing program and Old Dominion University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. She has built her career on a foundation of skill, empathy and unwavering commitment to patient care. With over 41 years of nursing experience, Morgan has worked as a dedicated bedside nurse in pediatric intensive care, open heart surgery, intensive care and medical oncology units. At the meeting, Judy will share her insights on advance directives -- what they are, why they matter and how they empower patients and healthcare providers to make informed, meaningful decisions about care.
President Snodgrass extends special thanks to those ladies who attended the membership tea on Sept. 18 and to the Hospitality Committee who planned and prepared the delicious food. Ten new members were initiated into the club. The club participated in the GFWC International Day of Service on Sept. 26 to support ending domestic violence.
The Health and Wellness Community Service Program Committee members collected cosmetic bags filled with women's facial products that were delivered to the YWCA Domestic Violence Women's Shelter to provide them with personal items that they can use.
