2 min read

WHEELING - The Monarch Choir will entertain the Thursday Music Club at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at The Char House on the Boulevard, 1055 E. Bethlehem Blvd.

The Monarch Choir will present the upcoming concert to the club membership. Anyone can join the Thursday Music Club at any time by paying the annual dues of $20 a year.

The Monarch Choir is under the direction of David Scherrick. He is in his 23rd year of teaching, all within Marshall County Schools. During that time, he taught at Moundsville Middle School where he was the director of choirs for grades 6 through 8 for the first six years. Scherrick then went on to teach elementary music and chorus at Hilltop Elementary and Sand Hill Elementary for four years. The last 13 years have been at John Marshall High School where he directs the Concert Choir and Monarch Choir.

In addition to the choirs, he teaches beginning piano and guitar at the high school. Scherrick has served at the state level through the WV Music Educators Association and the WV American Choral Directors Association. He has been an all-state co-chair for the WV All State Children's Chorus, president of the WV Society for General Music, and for the last 13 years he has served as the secretary and region 5 chair for the WV Vocal Music Association. Under his direction, there have been singers in the WV All State Chorus for the last 12 years.

The Monarch Choir is an auditioned choir that students must try out for to be accepted. This year's choir has 22 members: 12 freshmen, six sophomores, two juniors and two seniors. These students have an active performance schedule this semester, with performances at the annual Symphony on Ice, John Marshall's Annual Monarch Tidings on Dec. 10 at the Center for Performing Arts at John Marshall High School, and singing for the Thursday Music Club.
