St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Wheeling will host a performance of the classic 1925 version of "The Phantom of the Opera" on Friday, Oct. 23, featuring a live organ accompaniment to the film by special guest musician Steven Ball.

WHEELING - St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 1410 Chapline St., Wheeling, will be screening the original 1925 version of "The Phantom of the Opera" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23.

A guest organist will be providing a live organ improvisation like it was done at the beginning of the 20th century.

From the eerie catacombs beneath the Paris Opera House to the grandeur of the masquerade, the organ accompaniment brings Lon Chaney's legendary silent performance vividly to life.

Admission is a free-will offering. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. St. Matthew’s offers handicap accessibility through its 15th Street entrance.

The guest accompanist, Steven Ball, is an organist, carillonneur, improviser, composer, conductor, campanologist, organ consultant and specialist in silent-film accompaniment. He is currently artist in residence at the Tampa Theatre in Tampa, Florida, and travels extensively as a consultant and concert artist.
