WHEELING - The Warwood High School Alumni Association, established in 2001, under the guidance of the late Dr. Clyde Campbell, recently presented a $4,850 check to Warwood Middle School Principal Jim Rowing to be used toward the purchase and installation of a digital message board.

In addition to Rowing, in attendance were Warwood Elementary Principal Robbie Demarest; Karin Butyn, Director of Strategic Communication and Related Arts, representing Ohio County Schools; and WHSAA committee members Frank Scenna ’76, president; Tom Lash ’60, past president; Carol Varner ’71, vice president; Dave Bonenberger ’70, treasurer; Patricia Yankavitch Byrd ’71, graphic designer; and Marla Roseberry Crabtree ’72. Vocelli Pizza was donated by Isaac Herron, business partner and Warwood Middle School Local School Improvement Council member.

Over the years, WHSAA has donated to the Warwood Schools. Projects include contributions to the purchase of the trophy case, to the playground, reading program, and Field Days, according to Alumni Association Past President Tom Lash. Additionally, with the treasury balance, WHSAA was able to donate to the Warwood Christian Church, where the committee held its meetings; and to the Ohio County Public Library, which will be archiving WHS memorabilia recently discovered in the church storage area.

"We would like to sincerely thank the Warwood Alumni Association for this generous donation and for the countless ways they have supported Warwood Elementary and Warwood Middle School throughout the years," said Rowing. "While we are saddened to see the Alumni Association disband, we know that one of the greatest things about Warwood is that once you're a Viking, you're a Viking forever. Their members will always have a home in our schools and will always be welcome in our buildings.

"We are especially grateful that this donation is helping kickstart our initiative to replace our current marquee with a digital sign. This is the first step toward a much-needed update that will help us better communicate with our families and community. We are thankful that the Alumni Association will be a part of that effort and that their generosity will continue to impact Warwood for years to come."

Scenna,WHSAA president, said, "Warwood schools and community have had major influences in the lives of alumni and residents. It's like a family. The committee's contribution to the message board project will hopefully keep that family spirit alive and show our continuing support toward future generations."

On Aug. 1, Warwood High School celebrated its final all-classes reunion with 380 alumni and guests in attendance. The Class of 1976 was the last class to graduate from WHS as Warwood, Triadelphia and Wheeling high schools consolidated to form Wheeling Park High School.
