WHEELING — A quaint little eatery located at the corner of 39th and Jacob streets in South Wheeling, called LJ’s Hoagie King, offers a big-time menu of their “famous” hoagies, plenty of side dishes off their “munchies” menu and a recently added breakfast menu.

LJ’s Hoagie King owners Lisa and Jay Powell opened the small diner, which offers counter and booth seating, just over four months ago after purchasing the business from the previous owner.

“We are mostly a hoagie shop,” Lisa Powell explained. The Italian, Philly steak and cheese, turkey bacon swiss, hot sausage, and meatball hoagies are just a few of the 20 different hoagies they offer in 6- or 12-inch sizes. Lisa said her husband Jay loves cooking and will be offering a “rib” special this Saturday.

French fries, onion rings, hot pepper cheese balls, cheese sticks, chicken tenders, fried shrimp and breaded mushrooms, zucchini or cauliflower are just a few of the popular choices listed on their “munchies” menu. Other items listed on their lunch and dinner menu include: cheeseburgers, soup, salads, and pizza offered with a variety of toppings. Every Thursday they offer an all-day spaghetti special for lunch and dinner which is very popular with customers.

LJ’s also offers a breakfast menu, that includes a breakfast platter, a variety of breakfast hoagies and wraps between the hours of 6-10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

“It is a popular spot for locals. … A lot of professionals come in for lunch and sometimes a dinner rush,” Powell explained. She said they are looking forward to growing the business and they see a lot of familiar faces and new faces patronizing their eatery on a daily basis.
