‘Goldilocks’ Puppet Show Slated At Marshall County Libraries

Stevens Puppets will present Goldilocks and the Three Bears with two shows on Monday — at 11 a.m. at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library and at 2 p.m. at the Benwood-McMechen Housing Authority’s Kubeck Room.

MOUNDSVILLE — The nationally acclaimed Stevens Puppets will present two shows of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” on Monday, July 29, in Marshall County.

The first show will be at 11 a.m. at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. The second performance, for the Benwood-McMechen Library, will be held at the Benwood-McMechen Housing Authority’s Kubeck Room, adjacent to the library, starting at 2 p.m. The performances will feature fully jointed hand-carved and painted wooden marionettes masterfully brought to life by professional actors. The programs are suitable for all ages. Both are free and open to the public.

“Goldilocks and the Three Bears” is the latest production by Stevens Puppets. Based on the classic tale, this version is set in an enchanted Alaskan forest, and the characters and hand-painted scenery reflect Southeast Alaskan cultural symbols, wildlife and landscape. The family of bears encounters different perspectives and values, ultimately sharing a common purpose with a salmon and resolving their conflict with a golden-haired trespasser, who learns precious lessons from them as well as from her bald eagle companion about respect, kindness, apologizing and forgiveness.

Stevens Puppets are originally from Middlebury, Ind., and for more than 80 years have been producing unforgettable and one-of-a-kind marionette productions. Their performances have been hailed throughout the country as “enchanting,” “outstanding” and “fantastic.” Their marionettes, authentically created in the traditional old world style, will charm young and old alike. And the artistic staging and theatrical expertise of the puppetmasters will leave the audience in awe.

This is a not-to-be-missed performance. It will last about 45 minutes, with a brief demonstration following the show.
