Symphony On Ice: Annual Holiday Spectacular Returns To WesBanco Arena This Thursday

WHEELING — Wheeling Symphony Orchestra announces its annual holiday event, Main Street Bank and EQT Foundation Present Symphony on Ice, conducted by Music Director John Devlin. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Don’t miss the Ohio Valley’s favorite holiday show. Join the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra along with champion professional skaters, the Pittsburgh and Wheeling Figure Skating Clubs, local middle and high school choirs, and surprise guests as we welcome in the sounds of the season. It’s the holiday tradition the entire family will enjoy.

The program will feature professional skaters, Jeremy Abbott and Katie McBeath. Abbott is an four-time U.S. Figure Skating Champion and U.S. Olympic Team Bronze Medalist. His career highlights include being a 2014 Olympic Winter Games bronze medalist, seven-time Grand Prix Series medalist (three gold, two silver, two bronze), and a three-time U.S. champion (2009, 2010 and 2012). McBeath is a five-time Sectional Medalist, five-time National Competitor, and 2017 Collegiate National Champion. In addition to the professional skaters, the Pittsburgh and Wheeling Skate Clubs will return to perform along with the Pittsburgh Theatre on Ice and Steel City Blades, and other special surprise guests.

Not only does Symphony on Ice bring the best entertainment in skating, it features many of Ohio Valley’s young musicians. More than 350 local middle and high school choir students participate. Schools include Bellaire High School, Brooke High School, Martins Ferry High School, Sherrard Middle School, St. Clairsville High School, Triadelphia Middle School, Warwood Middle School, Wheeling Country Day School and Wheeling Park High School.

“Symphony on Ice is truly a unique experience that brings our entire community together,” Devlin said. “I am thrilled to be involved in this special event for the first time– and I’ve never seen an orchestra do anything quite like it! The music you will hear will help get your holiday season off to a great start, and we know that your family will love being with us at WesBanco Arena!”
