Classic Tale of Chivalry Unfolding Online at The Moundsville Library

Alan Irvine

MOUNDSVILLE — The classic 14th century tale “Sir Gawaine and the Green Knight” will provide a dramatic mid-day break at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 3, when it comes to you live on the Moundsville Library’s Zoom and Facebook platforms.

Spun from the tradition of King Arthur, the account of Sir Gawain is full of derring-do, magic and romance – and naturally a big helping of knightly chivalry. It will be presented by world-class storyteller Alan Irvine. This half-hour event is aimed at adults and older children.

A professional storyteller in the Pittsburgh area, Irvine has toured widely with a repertoire of stories that often draw on historical people, events and places. He is especially well known for his traditional Irish stories, ghost stories, adaptations of Shakespearean plays and Greek myths, and folktales and legends from around the world.

Irvine has entertained audiences at venues in the southwestern Pennsylvania area and throughout the country, and his recordings have garnered numerous awards. He also teaches workshops, produces storytelling shows and provides walking tours exploring historic Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

He is the co-founder of Brawling Bard Theater, a troupe specializing in high-energy comedy and stage combat. Irvine writes and directs for the company.

The Moundsville Library is offering a variety of virtual events and extra digital resources since in-person programming was suspended due to COVID-19.

The Zoom Webinar platform being used for this event will permit you to join as an unseen audience member while the presenter offers an online performance. Find the Zoom link on the Moundsville Library’s Facebook page or the library’s website, or call or email the library. Zoom is easy to use and may be downloaded for free.

Visitors may also watch the event live on Facebook (a Facebook account is not required) or listen in by phone at 1-929-205-6099 or 1-301-715-8592.
