MARTINS FERRY -- The Martins Ferry Theatre Department will present the late Stephen Sondheim's musical, "Into the Woods," at Martins Ferry High School at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students; tickets are available at the door.
One of Sondheim's and James Lapine's most popular works, the Tony Award-winning "Into the Woods" is a musically sophisticated show that gives the opportunity for actors to showcase their skills at dark comedy.
This satirical fairytale adventure features a mashup of the Brothers Grimm's most enduring characters. The story follows the Baker and his Wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would produce milk. When the Baker and his Wife learn they cannot have a child because of the Witch's curse, they set off into the woods to break the curse.
Timeless antagonists the Wolf, the Witch and the Giant wreak havoc as the storylines interweave and overlap in dark, unexpected and sometimes humorous ways.
In the end everyone's wish is granted, but not without disastrous consequences.

Cast members include Josh Vetanze as the narrator/Mysterious Man; Emma McFarland as Cinderella; Ash Williams as Jack; Maddi Painter as Jack's Mother; Sal Briggs as Baker; Kristin Savage as Baker's Wife; Abigail Carpino as Cinderella's Stepmother; Meghan Mahan as Florinda; Maddy Piper as Lucinda; Danielle Helsel as Cinderella's Mother/Giant; Raena Simpson as the Witch; Julia Buck as Little Red; Wyatt Hercules as the Wolf/Steward; Emmy Buck as Granny/Sleeping Beauty/Milky White; Searah Brown as Rapunzel; Jude Kutay as Rapunzel's Prince; De Briggs as Cinderella's Prince; Punch Wannaekkewee as Snow White/Milky White; and Cameron Murphy as Cinderella's Father.
Crew members include Erik West, Trinity Mulvey, Emili Morris, Nina Lipscomb, Kadee Mulvey, Mikhayla Nolan, Joseph McLeod and Ashlyn Smith.
