MOUNDSVILLE -- The "true" story of how the 1970s began is told in Mystery Theatre Unlimited's hilarious new musical-comedy murder mystery production, "Mission: Unpossible," to be presented at 6:30 p.m. today, Friday, April 14, at the Vue Bar and Grill in Grand Vue Park, Moundsville.
Set on Dec. 31, 1969, the show presents Pete Fernbaugh as master criminal Baron Von Halen, a dictator of a small Eastern European nation known as Coleslavia. Von Halen is determined to set off a dangerous device that will end the free-love spirit of the 1960s and set into motion a cultural disaster: The 1970s. A team of spies, headed up by Jim Yelps (played by Dustin Heavilin), is dispatched to stop the villain from turning the world into a place populated by polyester-wearing, disco-dancing, smiley-face enthusiasts.
The team of spies assisting Yelps include disguise artist Colin Card (portrayed by Butch Maxwell), technical wizard Barney Colander (played by Sean Decker) and the sultry Paprika Jones (portrayed by Karissa Martin.)
As the plan unfolds, complications conspire to threaten the mission, including mis-delivered remedies, mistaken identities and ridiculous incompetence, along with a few absurd song parodies.
Mystery theatre performances, which take place in a dining room with actors moving about and among the tables, include audience interaction and the opportunity to solve a murder mystery, along with a dinner.
Audience members are encouraged to gather clues, talk to the characters and even question the survivors after the murder has occurred. Selected audience members will play small parts during the show.
