MOUNDSVILLE -- The Strand Theatre Preservation Society welcomes live theater back to Moundsville with its musical production of "9 to 5: The Musical."
The show runs this weekend with performances at 7 p.m. today, Friday, July 28, and Saturday, as well as a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 30.
With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, "9 to 5" is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie of the same name.
Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concocta plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy -- giving their boss the boot.
While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
The cast and crew consist of artists from across the Ohio Valley. The production is directed by Shelby Garrett with musical direction by Justin Jones, choreography by Anna Harsh and technical direction by Meta Lasch.
Cast members include Jamie Faulkiner (Violet Newstead), Alexa Jasinski (Doralee Rhodes), Mandy McGovern (Judy Bernly), Hayden Heiserman (Franklin Hart Jr.), Rose Cunningham (Roz Keith), Ethan Casey (Joe), Evan Oslund (Dwayne), Roman Hulver (Josh), Shanan Stout (Missy Hart), Laykin Milton (Maria), Corey Rogers (Dick), Shaylee Groves (Kathy), Aubree Gray (Margaret), David Scherrick (Bob Enright), Peter Lim (Tinsworthy).
The ensemble includes Karen Dixon, Paige Fields, Kal-el Hill, Abby Hollister, Makenzie Kimble and Clairese Ray.
Pre-selected community members will have the chance to appear on stage during the production, and audience members will give donations prior to the show and during intermission to "vote" for their favorite. The person collecting the highest amount of donations will appear on stage during Act 2. All proceeds from the walk-on role will benefit Marshall County Back to School Fun Fair.
Tickets for "9 to 5" are available at Frame & Fortunes on Jefferson Avenue in Moundsville and online at www.strandtheatrewv.com/events.
Adult tickets are $15 and student tickets are $12. A limited number of Golden Tickets are available for each performance for $5.
A Golden Ticket (along with the purchase of a regular ticket) allows a patron to enter one hour prior to the performance and have first choice at their seat location.
The production is sponsored in part by Bordas & Bordas, Gene and Joan Gray, and Fawn and Jim Price. "9 to 5" is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
