Silas Powell Band Returns To The Pennyroyal Opera House

The Silas Powell Band

FAIRVIEW — The Pennyroyal Opera House will host a bluegrass show today, Friday, March 7, featuring the Silas Powell Band.

Powell is a fifth-generation picker from the small town of Salem, W.Va. He is quite talented on a variety of instruments, but the mandolin is his passion.

He has become well known for his unique style of Monroe Mandolin picking, but he can also play fiddle, guitar and banjo.

Powell first had the mandolin in his hands in his playpen, and his dad and papaw knew then he was going to follow them in their music talents. He first started truly playing the mandolin at age 7. He was in the basement with his dad’s band at the time and just started chopping along, and needless to say his dad hasn’t picked up a mandolin since!

The opening band for the night will be Just Plain Grass.

The kitchen and doors open at 5 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person, and children ages 12 and under are admitted for free.

The Pennyroyal Opera House consists of a 100-percent volunteer staff and is located in Fairview, Ohio, just off Interstate 70 at exit 198.
