Martins Ferry Theatre Stages Wild Ride to ‘Hadestown’

MARTINS FERRY –The Martins Ferry High School Theatre Department will take audiences on a heart-wrenching yet hopeful journey to the Underworld and back in their performances of the musical “Hadestown: Teen Edition.”
Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, April 25; and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Martins Ferry High School Cafetorium.
“Hadestown” premiered on Broadway in 2019 and won eight Tony Awards that year. Written by Anais Mitchell, it is a tale within a tale, intertwining the fates of Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife, Persephone. It features mesmerizing melodies pitting “industry against nature, doubt against faith and fear against love,” according to Broadway.com.
“This show has been a huge undertaking for us,” MFHS Theatre director Julia Wayne said. “We knew coming into it that it would be something we would have to put all of our energy and time into developing, but the story is so beautiful and the music is infectious. We are ecstatic to bring this breathtaking story to our community.”
The cast includes Sal Briggs as Hermes; Ryan Connors as Orpheus; Alexandra Gramatikos as Eurydice; Alex Danehart as Hades; Samantha Roundtree as Persephone; Abby Carpino as Fate 1; Rayanne Rose as Fate 2; Olivia Augenstein as Fate 3; and Hayden Tinnel, Songha Lee, Kaylee Long, Abygail Heath, Daniela Porto-Lessa, Levi Brigss and Nick Nolan as Workers.
The “Hadestown” crew includes stage manager Zoe Heath, stagehand Jaden Summers, sound technicians Silas Blount and Mia McCormack, and light technicians Payton Kramer, Milo Dobresk and Niki Vigoffi.
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Pre-sale tickets are available from cast or crew members or in the high school office.
