Resurrection Island Tattoo Convention Returns

WHEELING — Breaking Skin Tattoo and Body Piercing of Bridgeport is proud to present the fifth annual Resurrection Island Tattoo Convention, returning to the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack this weekend.
This year, more than 100 tattoo artists converge at Resurrection Island, representing a bold spectrum of styles from fine-line minimalism and realistic portraiture to vivid color illustrative, neo-traditional and more. In addition to spotlighting tattoo artistry, the convention will include live entertainment throughout each day and a selection of distinctive vendors.
The event will take place from noon to midnight today, Friday, Oct. 10, and Saturday, Oct. 11; and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12.
Daily tickets are available at the door or online at tatcon1.com. This is a 21-and-over event.
“Resurrection Island is about bringing people together to celebrate the creativity in the tattoo industry,” Convention Coordinator Lexie Lopez said. “Whether it’s your first tattoo convention or your 15th, we want everyone to feel the passion and authenticity that define this convention.”
For spontaneous ink enthusiasts, walk-up appointments will be available from a rotating selection of artists.
Custom consultations and appointments can be arranged in advance by reaching out directly to the artist of choice. The full line-up of featured and attending artists, complete with portfolios showcasing their individual specialties, is available online at the official Resurrection Island site, tatcon1.com
Live music will include performances by Say Ahh, Pittsburgh-area Poison tribute band, at 7 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 10. At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Casket Candy will fire up the stage, followed by the hard rock sounds of Theriaca at 7 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, there will be performances and appearances by the No Gimmicks Needed Suspension Team, burlesque and variety stage performer Sam Eye Am, spooky glam-fusion burlesque troupe Monster Dolls and the voice of Resurection Island, DJ Daner.
“Bringing the Resurrection Island Tattoo Convention to the Ohio Valley isn’t just about putting on an event, it’s about building community,” Dennis Gilbert, convention promoter, said. “We’re creating a space where artists, collectors and first-timers can come together to celebrate the craft, the culture and the connection that tattooing brings.”
