Art Show, Film Screening and Director Q&A Set at Towngate

WHEELING – On Saturday, March 28, the Towngate Theatre will host an art show featuring local vendors beginning at 4 p.m.

The community is invited to support local artists and view ceramics from Oglebay on display. Admission to the art show, located on the ground floor, is free.

At 7 p.m., Towngate will host a screening of the award-winning film “O Pioneer,” followed by a live Q&A with the directors. Tickets are $8, and all proceeds support the Towngate Theatre’s local initiatives and programs.

“O Pioneer” reckons with and redefines the American pioneer. This documentary follows three West Virginians — a blacksmith, a seamstress and a hospital chaplain — as they creatively navigate hardship. Narrated by musician Kaia Kater, the film weaves verite moments with archival footage, poetic vignettes and animation as Tim Hibbs, Nellie Rose Gundersen Davis and James Morley answer their calls to pioneer a way forward.

Come see the Webby, Emmy, Telly and Appalachian Studies Association Award-winning movie that film critic Tina Kakadelis calls “a beacon for the reality of West Virginia and the people who live there … a humble but proud call to the pioneer in all of us.”

Light refreshments will be available for purchase from the Towngate Theatre kitchen.

Starting at $2.99/week.
