Brooke Hills Playouse

WELLSBURG — The Brooke Hills Playhouse is thrilled to announce its 55th season, featuring a diverse lineup designed to bring laughter, music and mystery to the Ohio Valley.

The season highlights include:

“The Second-to-Last Chance Ladies League,” a comedy by Jones, Hope and Wooten. If you loved last season’s “Always a Bridesmaid,” then you won’t want to miss it! Four lifelong friends, Libby Ruth, Deedra, Monette and Charlie, reunite to rescue their favorite local wedding venue, Laurelton Oaks. They transform the old estate into a multi-purpose event space, handling everything from wacky memorial services to retirement parties. It’s a fast-paced comedy that highlights the power of female friendship and the idea that it’s never too late for a fresh start. This show is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Dramatists Play Service. Come laugh along with everyone June 5-7, 12-14 and 19-21.

“May We All: A Country Jukebox Musical,” licensed by Music Theatre International, follows Jenna Coates, a struggling musician who slinks back to her small hometown of Harmony, Tennessee, after her Nashville dreams fizzle out. While hiding her failure, she discovers her community is also facing tough times and losing its spark. By mending old fences with family and friends, Jenna helps the town rediscover its voice. The story is a tribute to country roots, featuring hits from stars like Dolly Parton and Florida Georgia Line. Tap your toes to these great tunes July 9-12 and 16-19. Note that Thursday evenings have been added for this production.

“The Emperor’s New Clothes” is an adaptation by Timothy Mason that is licensed by Plays for New Audiences and is our children’s show for this season. In this classic tale, a fashion-obsessed ruler neglects his kingdom to focus on his wardrobe. Two clever con artists arrive, claiming to weave a magical fabric that is invisible to anyone who is hopelessly stupid or unfit for their job. Terrified of being exposed as incompetent, the Emperor and his advisors pretend to see the non-existent clothes. The charade continues until a parade through the city, where a child finally speaks the truth, forcing the Emperor to face his own vanity. Come see these talented youth actors July 31-Aug. 2 and Aug. 7-9.

“CLUE” is a lively, comedic whodunit based on the Hasbro board game and the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn and written by Sandy Rustin with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price. On a dark and stormy night, six mysterious guests gather at Boddy Manor for a dinner party full of secrets. Each visitor is given a colorful alias and a deadly weapon, soon discovering they are all being blackmailed by their host. When Mr. Boddy turns up dead, the house goes into a frantic lockdown. Led by Wadsworth the butler, the group must dodge a rising body count to unmask the killer before they become the next victims. This show is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Dramatists Play Service. Solve the mystery Aug. 21-23 and 28-30.
