ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Allen Pool at Memorial Park is set to welcome the first ever Emo Night Swim on Saturday.
The all-ages event will take place from 8-10 p.m. Admission is $10.
It is hosted by Two Thirty One Productions, which is a local production company that hosts all-ages concerts and events monthly in the Ohio Valley area.
Emo Night Swim is a pool party with a D.J. playing all of the classic and modern emo and pop-punk songs.
Event organizer Gage Vota said that if the event gets rained out, the make-up date will be the following Saturday, July 25, with the same time of 8-10 p.m.
He added that the goal for the event is for everyone to have a good time, but he also said he plans to use it as a platform to attract people who are into emo and alternative music but might not be familiar with Two Thirty One Productions. He said hopefully the Emo Night Swim will encourage them to attend future concerts and events.
"It's been ridiculously hot this summer, so I thought instead of having an event inside, why not rent out the pool and throw a party?" Vota said.
He added that he has done extensive research and cannot find another event like Saturday’s.
"I came up with the idea and reached out to Kate Banks at Allen Pool about renting the pool to host an emo night, and she couldn't have been more accommodating to make this happen," Vota said. "After we confirmed it, I started looking online to see if other promoters have done something similar to use as a reference, and I couldn't find any that existed."
Two Thirty One Productions has existed since 2023, but Vota has been hosting events since 2010.
The company is a completely volunteer-based operation with Vota and his friends and collaborators Ann Marie Sorg, Collin Ebert, August Paree, Mike Shatter, Christian West, and Tyler Cox.
"We all grew up in the DIY punk community. Ann Marie and Christian helped me run a local venue that I used to own in Moundsville called Thunderbird's," Vota said. "There's no real money in this, we just do it because we're really passionate about doing our small part to help the Ohio Valley music scene flourish."
Future events can be found on Two Thirty One Productions' Facebook page or its Instagram at @231.Productions.
Its next concert is Aug. 15 at the Kevin Barr Event Center and will see international underground hip-hop legend GDP perform alongside local acts Kid Mara, Exit Angels and Junkyard Jim.
GDP is most known for his split E.P. with the Front Bottoms as well as his album Useless Eaters that was distributed through Run For Cover Records.
