MOUNDSVILLE - A bewitching selection of Irish ghost stories - spun out of murder, jealousy and revenge - will be presented by world-class storyteller Alan Irvine at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

This event is aimed at adults and older students.

A professional storyteller currently residing in the Pittsburgh area, Irvine has toured widely with a repertoire of stories that often draw on historical people, events and places. He is especially well known for his traditional Irish stories and those featuring ghosts and hauntings are among his best.

Alan Irvine makes frequent appearances at schools, libraries and festivals ranging from the Toronto Festival of Storytelling to Renaissance and Irish festivals. His tales of Pennsylvania history, the life of King David, adaptations of Shakespearean plays and Greek myths, and folktales and legends from around the world have entertained audiences at venues in the southwestern Pennsylvania area and throughout the country.

Irvine teaches workshops, produces storytelling shows and provides walking tours exploring historic Pittsburgh neighborhoods. He helped found the storytelling group StorySwap and has twice won the Three Rivers Storytelling Festival Liars contest. His recordings have garnered numerous awards, including Storytelling World and NAPPA (National Parenting Publications) awards. In addition, he works with Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks, where he tells stories of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as hosting the popular Bring Your Own Bard reading series. He is the co-founder of Brawling Bard Theater, a troupe specializing in high-energy comedy and stage combat. Irvine writes and directs for the company.

The Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library is pleased to offer this frightfully fun storytelling experience. The event is free and open to the public, with sponsorship provided by the R. Mike Baker Family.

The library is located at Fifth Street and Tomlinson Avenue in Moundsville.
