Free Drug Testing Kits Available to Those Living in Ohio County
Law Enforcement officials and other Ohio County leaders met Tuesday in Wheeling to unveil a new drug testing program aimed at fighting drug abuse, particularly among school-age children.
The federally-funded program provides a way distribute saliva-based drug tests capable of detecting marijuana, opioid painkillers, stimulants, tranquilizers, cocaine, methadone and PCP.
U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld said the kits are available free of charge to Ohio County residents through the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, Wheeling Police Department, Triadelphia Police Department, Ohio County Health Department, The Medicine Shoppe at 620 National Road, Elm Grove Pharmacy at 102 E. Bethlehem Boulevard, the Wheeling YWCA at 1100 Chapline St., Wheeling Park High School and the Ohio County Board of Education Office at 2203 National Road.
Ohio County Health Administrator Howard Gamble said the kits include a mouth swab that can be rubbed inside a person’s mouth and then returned to its holder where a chemical reaction identifies a potential drug by changing colors.
