‘Touch of Amish’ Brings Amish Country to Wheeling

Touch of Amish owners Kevin and Anne Carroll stand alongside the variety of jarred Amish foods they sell at the store they opened July 20 in Edgwood.
Those seeking Amish goods can now opt out of the long drive into the country and instead stop by a recently-opened shop in Edgwood.
“There’s nothing like it here,” said Kevin Carroll, co-owner of Touch of Amish at 1128 National Road. “My mother can’t make it out to Amish country, so it’s so great to have this here. People go ‘wow, I go up twice a year, this has saved me.'”
Kevin opened Touch of Amish with his wife, Anne, on July 20, and since then, the variety of jarred foods, baked goods and other Amish products they sell have been in high demand, Carroll said.
“It’s Amish Country at your doorstep,” Anne said.
The store sells dozens of different products, many of which come from an Amish family outside of Erie, Pa., Kevin said. Offerings include jams, relishes, desserts, cheeses, jerky, mixes and more.
The couple started their business five years ago as a way to pay for their four children to attend college. They started by selling jarred goods at festivals and craft shows and expanded from there, Kevin said.
“I came out of college with debt. I didn’t want them to,” he said of his kids.
Before opening the shop, Kevin and Anne were attending 90 to 110 shows a year across Ohio and Pennsylvania, he said. Now, the two can walk to the newly-opened storefront from their home in Edgwood.
“They’re good,” Kevin said of Amish products, noting that four Amish women make most of the store’s wares. “They make nice small batches so the flavor’s consistent. And it’s not commercialized at all, it’s a small family operation.”
Touch of Amish offers fresh baked goods on Saturdays, and due to high demand, the shop plans to sell them on Tuesdays as well sometime soon, Kevin said. Customers can preorder goods on the store’s Facebook page.
Next week, the shop will hold raffles with prizes as a thank you to the neighborhood, Kevin said. Customers who shop throughout the week will be entered into daily raffles as well as a separate raffle to win an overnight stay at Mountaineer Resort in New Cumberland.
Other future plans include offering grass-fed beef and Amish wine. Kevin said he met with wineries and distributors, and is now just waiting on licensing.
The shop also serves as a home for Anne’s business, Drop of Wellness, which offers essential oils for mental wellness.
Touch of Amish is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Kevin and Anne can be reached at 304-312-9022 or facebook.com/touchofamish.
