Wheeling U. Signs Partnership Agreement with Belmont College

Wheeling University President Ginny Favede and Belmont College Paul Gasparro sign an agreement Thursday forming a partnership centered around their criminal justice programs.

WHEELING — Wheeling University and Belmont College in St. Clairsville have formed a partnership centered around their criminal justice programs.

The formal articulation agreement signed Thursday will offer Belmont College students the chance to complete a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Wheeling University.

Students who begin their educational career at Belmont and complete their associate’s degree will have a guaranteed transfer to Wheeling to complete the final two years of the criminal justice program.

“This agreement allows students more opportunities to move along in their educational career while saving money,” Wheeling University President Ginny Favede said. “Partnerships allow us to collaboratively work together to benefit both of our institutions and meet our mission while working together instead of competing against one another. It’s a win-win situation for all.”

Belmont College Paul Gasparro added that the partnership will offer a “seamless transfer” to their students who want to attain their bachelor’s degree.

“This is an important agreement which focuses on student success,” Gasparro said. “We are always pleased to create new agreements with four-year institutions and to assist our students in moving on toward advanced degrees.”

Wheeling University’s bachelor’s program in criminal justice is designed to show how the components of the criminal justice system work together and depend on one another.

Students are able to pursue particular interests in criminal justice by choosing from a wide variety of elective courses or by combining criminal justice with a major or minor in other disciplines.

Beyond the classroom, internships may be available in law enforcement, as well as government and social service agencies.
