Two men face felony charges in unrelated incidents after being found with caches of drugs and having weapons while prohibited from doing so.
On Jan. 29, the Marshall County Drug Task Force carried out a search warrant at a room at the Plaza Motel. Inside, John Freshwater, 35, of Moundsville, was allegedly found with a number of items, including a plastic container with several pills, a plastic container and two bags, each allegedly containing methamphetamine, and $711 in cash, as well as a digital scale.
In addition, Freshwater was found to have a handgun and 55 rounds of ammunition. Freshwater has multiple felony convictions and is prohibited from owning a gun.
Freshwater was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance -- a felony -- for the meth, and possession of a controlled substance, for the pills, and prohibited person in possession of a firearm, both misdemeanors.
He remains lodged at the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. He waived his preliminary hearing earlier this week.
In an unrelated arrest, Daniel Ray Johnson Jr., 34 of Moundsville, was arrested on Jan. 31 when the Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 1226 Third St. Inside, Johnson was found in his bedroom, allegedly with a bag containing 18 grams of meth and $490 in cash. Inside a safe, police allegedly found 75 grams of marijuana and 2.4 grams of heroin, as well as a total of 150 more grams of marijuana around the room. He was also allegedly found to be in possession of a handgun, which others in the house told police he carried constantly. Johnson was convicted of domestic battery in 2013.
In the living room, police allegedly found more bags of meth and marijuana in various amounts.
Johnson was charged with three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one of prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He posted $10,000 bond and awaits his preliminary hearing Monday.
Also present at the residence was Camarie Laron Harrison, who was allegedly found with 7.73 grams of meth in his pocket. He said he denied knowing Johnson. Harrison was charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.
