SHERRARD -- Sherrard Middle School teacher Bricie Brannan was recognized with the Outstanding Educator Award in the accolade's inaugural year.

Brannan received the award for her work in the Project Lead the Way and STEM curriculums at her school.

The Emerging Elite & Industry Educator Awards is a celebration the skills and dedication of students and educators across West Virginia.

"Mrs. Brannan has helped build the entire STEM program at Sherrard, developed curriculum, and been a technology leader in the school for all staff," SMS Principal Jacob Marling said. "Mrs. Brannan goes above and beyond in everything she does at Sherrard. She loves her work and the students."

Students in Brannan's class said that her lessons on coding and other STEM subjects were some of their favorites at the school, and that they provided a unique learning experience, distinct from other classes.

"As the Explore Team has worked with students and educators to increase the understanding of manufacturing across the state, we have been amazed by student talent and poise," said Monica Cross, Program Director of the WVMAEF.

"The educators involved in our programs are steadfast champions for their students, tirelessly seeking means to help them succeed along their career pathways."
