Crews with Jimmie Harper Construction of Vienna remove a large pile of scrap steel from a lot at the corner of 16th and Main streets in downtown Wheeling last week as excavation work continues at the site. The county owns the lot, which was closed in late 2018 due to subsidence. Early this year, the Ohio County commissioners agreed to remove oil tanks and contaminated soil from the lot, fill the area back in, level it off and then turn it over to West Virginia Northern Community College.
