WEST LIBERTY -- Due to the recent decision by the Mountain East Conference to postpone all fall sports until the spring, West Liberty University is now postponing Homecoming 2020.
"Although we wish there was going to be a traditional homecoming event this fall, we believe the decision to postpone is in the best interests of our alumni, students and friends. We want to do our part to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus and keep our campus and communities safe," said Ron Witt, Executive Director of Alumni Relations and University Special Projects.
"We hope to have an alumni event in the spring 2021 and I will be working closely with the Athletic Director Lynn Ullom as we await details from the MEC as to what a spring schedule will look like. We will plan accordingly."
Originally planned for the weekend of Oct. 9-11, homecoming includes many gatherings and events for students, alumni, donors and the public and draws hundreds of people.
"The number of people that we would draw during homecoming this fall would not be appropriate during COVID-19. We will share more information as soon as it's available and we thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we go forward," Witt added.
West Liberty University is committed to maintaining a safe campus during the pandemic and regrets any inconvenience caused to its loyal alumni base and athletic fans, officials said.
