WPHS Student Displays Leadership Amid Pandemic to Benefit Wheeling Health Right

WHEELING - Wheeling Park High School senior Adesh Urval raised $700 for Wheeling Health Right after visiting the clinic with his Leadership Wheeling Youth group in January. Urval designed and sold yard signs displaying the patriotic phrase "United We Stand!" to raise the funds.
Urval, who plans to study medicine as a career, was impressed with clinic staff's dedication to their profession and their patients. "I met so many dedicated people who have dedicated their careers to Health Right," Urval said. "Many of them have worked there for years and have given so much of their lives to the place, it's just so impressive what they do."
When COVID-19 became a reality, Wheeling Health Right cancelled its 27th annual fundraiser, its Chefs' Auction, originally planned for May 1. The event is a significant fundraiser for the operational needs of the clinic. Urval learned of the cancellation and immediately wanted to help. He contacted Wheeling Health Right Executive Director Kathie Brown to ask for permission to conduct a fundraiser. Brown agreed.
Urval researched methods of fundraising, and chose the yard signs, believing that public display of patriotism was a growing national sentiment that would be popular among donors. He designed and ordered the signs and sold them for $20 each and presented the proceeds to Brown.
Brown said this unusual fundraiser is heartwarming. "This is a first for us. For a young person to take this initiative is very impressive," she said. "The fact that our staff and clinic impacted a young man so much that he wanted to take on this project has my heart exploding. Adesh will go very far in life. He's a remarkable young man and we are very grateful."
Adesh Urval is the son of Dr. Shashi and Monisha Urval of Wheeling.
