WHEELING -- It's become a rite of summer for hundreds of Ohio County public school students -- dressing up in nice clothes and heading to the J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center on a Tuesday evening in late June to be named a winner of a George E. Stifel Award.
This year, though, COVID-19 prohibited the county and the Stifel Prize Trustees from handing out hundreds of checks on June 23 to students in grades five through 12 based upon their academic performance. Instead, the 218 students being honored received their certificates in the mail -- along with checks totalling nearly $135,000.
With school in Ohio County set to resume Tuesday, we're providing a full list of all the winners here, as we've done in years past. Congratulations!
